A 30 degree angle designed thread forming screw has a reduced core, wide thread and narrow thread angle which provides high performance in most of the thermoplastics and even some thermosets. Smaller thread profile angle (also called a flank angle) of these screws reduces the internal radial stresses created during the fastening or removal process which permits it to be used effectively with thinner boss. These require lesser installation torque due to the thread design and can be used in repeat assembly operations. These screws are best suited for soft plastics and have flat end generally.

A 40 degree thread angle designed thread forming screw is used for installing into a wide variety of thermoplastics. Smaller thread profile angle (also called a flank angle) of these screws reduces the internal radial stresses created during the fastening or removal process while eliminating the need of inserts and allowing product design with thinner bosses. These screws can be used multiple times. Comes in AB (type C, cone end) and B (type F, flat end) type meeting DIN 7505. These screws are best suited for soft to medium stiff (density) plastics. Thread angle may vary from 40 degree to 48 degree based on the size of the fastener.

A 60 degree thread angle designed thread forming screw with spaced coarse spiral threads are used in both metallic and plastic applications. Although not usable with very thin thermoplastics. These have wider thread profile angle (also called a flank angle) and shallow threads. Works well with thick plastic sheets and in static applications where pull-out resistance is not of major concern. Ideal for both soft and hard plastics, thermoplastics and thermosets. Provides consistent driving torque and good torsional strength. Comes in AB (type C, cone end) and B (type F, flat end) type with thread as per ISO 1478.

The Hi-Low thread forming screw, sometimes called "hilo screw", with its unique dual thread form (double-helix), improves fastener performance in a broad range of low density plastics. The "high" thread is quite sharp (30deg), while the "low" thread is more conventional (60deg) and about 1/2 the height of the "high" thread. These screws are easier to install (less driving torque is needed), thread stripping is reduced, pull-out strength is increased, and there is less chance of splitting or cracking the material. Performs well in softer thermoplastics. Though used in a wide variety of plastics.

Thread-cutting screws have a notched end designed for cutting a thread. Smaller thread profile angle (also known as a flank angle) of this screw reduces installation torque while increasing surface area which results in a higher pullout force. Notch at the tip of the screw removes material while fastening. The material removed gets accumulated at the bottom of the hole, for that reason the hole is designed deeper when this screw is used. These are used mostly for thermoset materials (harder plastics). Also referred to as Type BT or Type 25 self tapping screw and Type 23 or Type T thread cutting screw.
